We recommend that you read over these instructions completely before you start. There are some helpful tips that will save you some grief if you go over it all first.
To add new products, login to the site backend, at http://www.sitename.com/administrator.
Under the Components Menu, select “VirtueMart”.
• This will take you to the Cart Component of the site.
• On the left, there are several tabs. Click on the Products Tab. It will expand to show you a series of options.
• Click on the List Products link.
• A new set of tools will appear along the top of the site.
• Click the New button at the top of the page.
• This takes you to a page where you can add a new product listing. The new product panel has several tabs across the top.
Start with the first tab.
• Enter the Stock Number under SKU.
• Put the Product Name in the Name field.
• Ignore the URL field, it is not necessary for normal product setup.
• Select the Category from the list.
• On the right, put the price into the Product Price field.
• Ignore the other fields in that part, and go down to the bottom to the Product Description field.
• You can insert images into the Description field, along with a description. The format to enter your products in, and the image sizes that you should use, are in the Details page at the end of this document.
• To insert an image, make sure it is scaled to the right size before you put it in. Place the cursor where you want the image to go, and use the Image link below the description box to insert it.
Ignore the Page Break and Read More buttons, they do not apply to product listings.
We will not cover the Display Options tab at this time - instructions will follow on how to add a secondary product to a product page (to sell companion items).
• Click the Product Status tab.
• Put the number of items available in the In Stock field. If your items are one-of-a-kind, put 1 in the box.
• Ignore the other fields in this tab.
• Click the Product Dimensions and Weight tab.
• The fields here are for the purpose of SHIPPING calculations ONLY. They do NOT show up on product pages. Enter them if you need the cart to calculate shipping for the item based on dimensions and weight.
• Click the Product Images tab. This tab is useful to give a larger view of the product, and to offer a thumbnail that will be available to the visitor in Category view.
Ignore the Related Products tab unless you wish to cross link products.
Click the Save button at the top of the page.
